Visiting Église Sainte-Marie-Madeleine

There is not much to tell about the Sainte-Madeleine church. The theory that it is a converted castle is unlikely, if only because of its small size of 20 x 12 metres.

The only sign of a fortification is a tower with embrasures, which was added to the north-east corner of the choir at the beginning of the 17th century. There was probably a second tower, which was demolished in 1820 and whose stones are said to have been used to build the parish school.

Two tombstones from the 16th and 17th centuries and the baptismal font from the 12th century are classified as “Monuments historiques”.

Unfortunately, the church is locked (the main door was open, but there is a second door to the nave inside, which was locked) and there is no indication of a key. It is therefore not possible to admire them.

M François MUNIER, who has photos of the gravestones and the baptismal font on his blog, was luckier and kindly allowed me to use them.
