Visiting Église de la Visitation-de-la-Sainte-Vierge
Apart from probably the longest name of all the churches on this website, the Église de la Visitation-de-la-Sainte Vierge has little to offer worth mentioning.
Remnants of the Romanesque period in which the original church was built can still be seen: in particular, former round arches, which, like the largest in the south wall, have mostly been bricked up. The church has been remodelled again and again over the course of time, with the two brick chapels in particular, which were added to the sides of the nave in the 19th century, adding nothing to the beauty of the building.
One trace of the fortifications can still be recognised: the remains of a turret made of white stone, which is set into the north-western corner buttresses and has an embrasure. According to Meuret, this used to be a massive tower, but not much remains of it.
Like the others in the region, the church is also locked and there is no evidence of a key.
