Visiting Église Saint-Quentin

Saint-Quentin in Voulpaix was built in the shape of a Latin cross. A round-arched window on the gable of the building indicates that it was preceded by an early church from the 12th century.

The walls of the nave are entirely of sandstone, the aisles and chancel partly of brick on a foundation of sandstone. The nave is much lower than the choir and transept. Above the transept is a small bell tower which does not overhang the roof of the choir.

At the corner of the choir and the northern aisle are the remains of a shortened turret with embrasures. In the rear wall of the same aisle, two cannon shafts framed by bricks and an embrasure can be seen.

The walls of the nave and also the choir of Saint-Quentin are still littered with traces of old windows, arches and doors.

The church is locked but can be opened (see telephone number on the Thiérache-Tourisme website).
