Visiting Église Saint-Martin

Without wishing to offend the Saint-Martin church in Harcigny, it is certainly one of the least interesting of the fortified churches in the Thiérache. And this despite the fact that it is built entirely of brick, as is typical in this area.

There are only a few signs of fortification: a few embrasures and thin buttresses on the bell tower. The church has probably been constantly remodelled over the centuries; three dates inscribed in glazed bricks in the walls provide more information about the construction or restoration of the building: 1749 under the porch, 1714 in the nave and 1818 in the choir.

Finally, it is still locked with no indication of a key, so that we cannot tell anything about the interior. In other words, it is a church that is not necessarily worth a visit.
