Visiting Église Saint-Pierre-des-Liens

The church -Pierre-des-Liens in Grand Fayt is rather unspectacular and shows few signs of fortification. The square bell tower has a few embrasures and to the left of the entrance portal, a 33-step staircase leads to a former escape room.

It was built in the 16th century on the foundations of a first sanctuary from the 12th century. Several dates made of glazed bricks can be seen in various parts of the church: 1680 at the top of the façade to mark the construction period, 1716 and 1723 on the left and right walls of the side aisle.

What is unusual, however, is the projection of the nave called the narthex, which is more common in Romanesque churches but is rarely wider than the nave itself.

Inside there are some beautiful religious works, such as statues of angels from the 17th century and paintings from the 16th century. Unfortunately, the church was locked when we visited, with no sign of a key, so we were unable to admire them.
